The stormy waters of the Arctic are beautifully contrasted with lush green hills so awe-inspiring that they are worth the price of admission. Appearing very familiar to the rolling landscape of the 2022 film, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, it is no wonder that the Scottish island where Billy resides is considered ‘paradise.’
Adding to the angelic aesthetic of the location is the soundtrack by Scottish Erland Cooper. As the film unfolds, a stunning violin score that tugs at the heart of the viewer sets the stage with its beauty and captures the whimsical yet fragile world of Billy and Molly.
To appreciate the natural world and become acquainted with the people who inhabit it is the main encouragement in Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story. By coming to know and appreciate the way of nature, Billy discards the illusory feeling of being in control in his own existence. Such doesn’t involve embracing the notion of being a “surrogate father” for a young otter which is how Billy pictured the first meeting with Molly on the dock. He never thought that a year later he will be constructing an otter house for Molly – his wee girl – two pictures of Billy, his wife and dog permanently placed in picture frames on wallpapered walls and includes a Polaroid picture of Molly too.
‘Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story’ is an endearing film directed by Charlie Hamilton James which comes across as heartfelt, inspiring in its essence and beneficial for young as well as mature audience members.
