For quite a while now, we have identified Elena Wolff – cabaret artist, actress and director’s colleague, as a young lady full of ideas. She has made it very clear this fact is not limited to the screen when she presented Para: Dies at Diagonale No, it is not strange that the interest in Asche (The world premiere at Diagonale 2024, a las, the winner of the Best Cinematography in Feature Film) emerged among both audience and critics. In fact, those expectations were not disappointed.
As a matter of fact, in “Asche”, Elena Wolff depicts not only the depth of the exploration of human souls but also a very courageous approach to extremely relevant topics done from absolutely different angles and with terrific pictures included more over. So what is it?
The artist narrates (herself ) she is wonder who is a model and an artist called Lulu and nobody knows her real name. Not even Simeon (Thomas Schubert, always excellent), her photographer boyfriend who is an ‘alpha’ male photographer cares about anyone including his partner who is a photographer.
However, Felix loves Anna very much while she is somewhat devoid and seeks to explore other lives; while among artists It is Elisa & Emilia could be happy together until the time comes when they discover their beliefs do not synch anymore. Verbert is one attractive sloppy doll with a very nice silver wig that compliments his fair but male face. Ignoring this entire synthesis of art-critical building works, Dagmar loves to simply wet her appetite watching and studying picture and how it has been presented, especially the graphic aspects – this picture starts with the words picture.
So surely Elena Wolff did bring genuine visual delight with her recent film ‘Asche’. As a rule, it seems that most of the pleasing surprises are still installed on her due to her remarkable talent & dauntlessness – we only have to find them!
