Badland Hunters (2024), the recent post-apocalyptic action featuring the popular Ma Dong-seok of Train to Busan (2016) fame, has finally been released amid much excitement. Although pitched as a follow-up to the hit buzz-worthy film, Concrete Utopia (2023), Badland Hunters quite effectively functions independently. What are the legendary apartments?

The apartment survives as the sole surviving building within the fictional land of Concrete Utopia and Badland Hunters after the apocalypse. What remains of the world are only dust and debris. Therefore, the fabled apartment is a ‘heaven on earth’ where, almost the impossible, clean drinkable water has been provided together with other amenities of good food and pipe borne water supply.

Why does Suna and her grandmother not oppose to moving to the apartments?

Following the bandit’s attack in the bus district where the thieves made attempts to attack Suna because she was a young woman in the “Badland Hunters”, an unknown woman visits Suna and her grandmother. What else can one desire! Suna soon learns that the apartments come with a new god – Yang Gi-su who is a scientist and is on a mission to save humankind from its oncoming doom. In the new world order of the apartment, the students are confined to the 8th floor, from which they will never ever see their guardians or the light again and their parents are on the task, struggling in deep recesses,working in turns to filter water that is worth more like gold.

What she does find is that her students in our class are dead people who exist and she sees traces of surgeries done on their corpses. The entire lecture is more an effort to orient the new comers on what is needed for them to survive in the coming new world and especially the need for people’s evolution, mainly Gi-su’s ideas.

Who is Gi-su and what is the truth of her experiments and the paradise of the apartments?

Suna soon discovers the misconception behind the notion. She gets apprehensive of the mind control atmosphere of the entire area and makes a plan to run away one night. At the accident, Suna walks into Gi-su’s laboratory and sees Lee Ju-ye, the companion she met on the way to the apartments, in Gi-Sus lab as an experimental enclosure. The truth of the experiments by Gi-su and others breaks and comes to light.

Badland Hunters is made plain that Yang gi-su had thought of a bizarre method within the variety of transgenic methods which per se was implemented into the body of an individual instead of just contacting with a part of a specific skin which was a lizard one.

In the melee of the fulfilled task, he first experiences the euphoria of self satisfaction but later on, he realizes that some things were not exactly what they appeared to be, as Suna wakes up and with unusual firmness informs him that she did not consume the water they provided her.

Badland Hunters is apparent that something has gone chemically awry which includes Gi-su’s facial disfigurement. On the other hand, a laboratory and Suna getting saved is featured with the team and Nam-san entering the premises with insistence.

What’s in store for Yang Gi-su?

Yang Gi-su is a daughter of the Yang’s family storming in with no plans of saving Ji Eun and escaping from the apartments with only a weakly beating heart and grotesquely preserved remains of the torso. However, they parents have known the truth about their children now.

They manage to overpower Gi-su as one. A nearby gun enters into Gi Su’s hand, and in a fit of blood frenzy kills anything and anybody within his sight. He learns in the process, that he has been so aggressive that the glass plating that protected the daughter image has shattered plus causing her to finally “die”.

Just when he wants to fire at Nam-san and the group to restrain them, once the glaze of fury has taken over his mind, the bullet of Nam-san finds its way into his head as he is rendered motionless. Simultaneously, the blessing of rain appeared to them and at last, the drought has ended.

What’s in store for Lee Eun-ho?

Lee Eun-ho works as a special forces sergeant who was one of the soldiers deployed on the site for Koryo disaster recovery operations and sets up the apartment for the use of earthquake survivors. A while after Yang Gi-su comes to the apartment, shortly afterward she left the apartment and come-up to Nam-san requesting his assistance. After the death of Gi-Su, another survivor of the trauma decided to leave the confines of the house and reconstruct the insides.

What exactly happens to Nam-san, Choi ji-wan and Suna?

After the events that unfolded at the apartment, Nam-san and his partner Choi Ji-wan who is another child living in the bus district and is infatuated with Suna such as his partner, takes Suna to her grandmother’s burial place. The three of them however retun to the bus district and Suna thereafter moves in with the two and helps them run their butcher business.
