After Marvel’s success, many people try to create their own Universe. To put it frankly, no one else has been able to capture the same magic. Before the mob comes after me with pitchforks, let me share my idea for a modern update for the classic 80s cartoon “Defenders of the Earth”.
If you are like me and grew up in an age with some of the best cartoons (and movies), you would remember “Defenders of the Earth”.
In this cartoon, the plot was simple. Flash Gordon and his son Rick were trying to escape from Ming the Merciless. Ming had exhausted the resources of Mongo and sought to exploit Earth. To do this, Ming quartered Flash’s wife, Dale Arden. Dale resisted brainwashing until death, then her psyche was later stored inside a supercomputer called Dynac X. Afterward, Flash teamed up with Mandrake to organize Defenders against Ming.
Perhaps holding onto the idea of killing Dale would be in my favor as people would complain of the absence of a strong female character, but just like what participates in the building of this Cinematic Universe, this can definitely work. But how about the cast? Well let me tell you one thing, during my drunken stupors I have gotten into many self debates about who should be cast for the movie and I found myself to be in complete agreement.
I like the idea that the cast can be in their mid to late thirties considering that they would have kids already by this age.
So I was watching Altered Carbon not too long ago and it dawned on me that Joel Kinnaman would fit the character of Flash Gordon perfectly. While I am quite sure he can portray a dry sense of humor, he also looks like quite the world-weary man. As I mentioned before, all of us tend to look like this when we get older. What’s great is that he can also act as a total hero, as he unites the team to save the universe, despite being world-weary.
Donnie Yen could also provide a nice twist and performance with a badass battle at the end fighting Flash during the climax. I also think B.D. Wong could be a great choice as well.
Sasha Baron Cohen was ironically presumed to act as the great Mandrake the Magician in a film expected to be released in 2016, yet there is a lack of sufficient information and I have no clue where it vanished. So here is a way out there suggestion Jean Dujardin won acclaim in the 2011 film The Artist and frankly I chose him because he can pull off the mustache and he looks exactly like Mandrake. am I missing something? The character is French? No, but who cares? In this instance, these particular concerns are not very important for the reason that he doesn’t exist in the real world. I believe Dujardin has the capabilities to do so.
As far as I am aware, people may have difficulty assuming that particular costume but The Ghost Who Walks has some cool skills and it is undeniable that Scott should have been given an opportunity in an over-the-top expensive blockbuster movie by now. He certainly possesses the skills, so it is appropriate to ask whether a superhero movie with terrific fighting scenes has ever been made. His nationality is also European which just makes things easier.
