THE CULT OF HUMPTY DUMPTY (2022)

The Cult of Humpty Dumpty, which was authored by Sam Ashurst & Scott Chambers and directed by Jack E. Bell, is a sequel to the film The Curse of Humpty Dumpty. It is yet another Jagged Edge Production film, and it was fairly decent. So decent, in fact, that this sequel was something to look forward to which is not always the case for a Jagged Edge Production film.

Now released as both The Curse of Humpty Dumpty 2 and a standalone film under the title The Cult of Humpty Dumpty, people seem to argue whether it is a sequel or not. Very few connections exist apart from a couple of mentionable and of course the villain. The film is lacking most of the important features of the previous film

A cast recognizable to followers of Jagged Edge Productions plays a group of young troubled women who are placed in a camp for young girls where they would be taught important life skills amongst other things. Like many celebrities such as Georgina Jane, May Kelly, Annabel Hammond, Sarah T. Cohen, and Kelly Rian Sanson, they are forcibly ‘cleansed’ at the camp physically and emotionally and while the camp does aspire to help kids like these, it is rather restricting.

The ‘Green Cleanse’ camp run by two aging hippies, Matthew Baungard and Gillian Broderick, serves only as a front. It’s actually a cult directed towards pouring worship, and they need to feed any child that would enable powerful magic.

Although the statement above is unfounded, it is still an intriguing one. It is deeply unremarkable, yet very engaging in its own mundane way. And the claim made is trepidatious at best. So some closer inspection along with a citation series seems appropriate. Even with a cast of this caliber, you would still be left hanging high and dry.

The powerful and symbolism concerning dementia and how It’s cleverly weaved around supernatural horror elements is without a doubt absent here. And that’s where, I daresay, it seems most reminiscent of a slasher film and, as expected, almost all highly anticipated cliches, are served on a silver platter along with it. For as many cliches as are rubbed in everyone’s face, one does not really need to go to Hell to fight them.

Targeting the true horror and ache that the movie’s concept about Humpty Dumpty sitting constructs serves along with all the ridicule that’s around franchise newbies are smacked into really does serve disappointment. The impact shifts deeper in a more seamless direction while sacrificing the intelligence the movie touts around itself and putting even more thought around the ridiculous debate.

That is what and why I believe The Cult of Humpty Dumpty is a far superior movie and while it does have its bad moments like a good cast, decent creepy aspects. A good film indeed, it simply does not hold up to the standard of The Curse of Humpty Dumpty. Let’s hope they aim for a third movie which ideally taps into both The Curse and The Cult and delivers a successful product.
