As described in the film’s detailed synopsis, While other fans are still waiting for the update on the movie without no arrival, Cassandra finds her estranged son Damien Holliday (Jabari Redd) dead and together with Isabelle (Belle Bahhs), she heads to Los Angeles for the funeral. Having showed up, she learns that it’s her son’s husband Jason Holliday (Jussie Smollett) – a man and a marriage she knew nothing about– who is already doing some arrangements for the funeral, so now she doesn’t have to do anything. With the help of their adopted daughter Arielle (Londyn Carter), Jason’s sister Cheyenne (Brittany Hall), and best friend Duck (Marquise Vilsón), Cassandra grew to know more about her son in death than she did when he was alive.
Overarching features of the mother-son, father-daughter, and friends, family and parent-child relationships—adoptive and biological, and most importantly, love as the forces which are greater than generational curses and even death—are expressed in “The Lost Holliday”. Furthermore, the film honors the LGBTQIA+ community and mainstreams acceptance beautifully showcasing the struggles and victories of a same-gender-couple dealing with family conflict and community stereotypes.
