Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp
Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp
Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp: Back in 2017, 7 years ago, Woody Woodpecker did get its first ever theatrical movie but it did not turn out the way most people anticipated… It was not only bad, but the film made only 15Million dollars in terms of revenue worldwide against investment of 10 Million dollars. Believe you me, these are not figures to be proud of especially considering that you have the character who is globally known to be the main focal point of the movie. Some of the things that come to our minds, should be left as ideas and that film was an example.
And now as we are in the year 2024, the same studio tries again with a new title called Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp. But this time round there is a difference! They have the intention of introducing more original character from the franchise and make it relatively closer to the original material. The film depicts Woody Woodpecker in search for another house after getting chased off the woods. At Camp Woo Hoo, he believes that he has found a place he can permanently stay but there is an inspector who is at large hell bent on closing the camp.
You know for a fact that you will go into this movie with a lot less expectations, considering the ordeal we went through in the first round. But let me say this: this is not in many ways a continuation from the previous film, it is a different lot of characters altogether and the story is a different lot of things but still the most clichéd story ever imagined. Remember Cheaper By The Dozen part 2 with the two opposing groups and the camping games and challenges? Well this is basically the same thing but with Woody Woodpecker in it.
The reason I watched this movie is embedded in its story than the animations which were just the icing on the cake. For most of my life, I have been a Woody Woodpecker fanatic and even back then, I watched this show a lot. I know all the characters along with their personalities as Jazz and Rock. I would not even try to watch a Woody Woodpecker movie if I was looking for something good, well, I would love the character and that alone was enough for me.
The CGI is fine, however, it is not perfect. What ruins the CGI are the interactions between characters that are real people and the animated ones. For example, children would face a wall and talk to Woody Woodpecker, which caused me to chuckle though not in a good way. I must give credit to Kevin Michael Richardson as Buzz Buzzard, best character and more accurate representation of the original character than I could hope for, I would always be looking forward to any scene with him and Woody. I really like these guys.
The script is appreciation of audience choice, character of scenes must meet aim of the story, but here they have drawn plenty of blank spaces around it. Or moments where they immerse themselves so much in trying to portray that scene that I feel more embarrassed by the attempt and funny at the same time. But at the end it’s a children’s movie so let’s not be too critical. The efforts are indeed nothing magical. It is certainly a movie that will give some entertainment to young kids but other than that just a waste of time.
Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp is what children would pay for, I guess that’s the point. It has lots of cringe dialogues, combined with stupid plot lines that could have been written better. But at least the original characters are back so that is something I really appreciate.
