Someone Like You
Someone Like You
People who love Karen Kingsbury’s films and novels are in for a real surprise with her latest release, Someone Like You. While her novels have been made into films on many occasions, for Karen Kingsbury Productions, which is wholly new here, it is the first movie that has been independently produced by them.
In response, Kingsbury said: “While I was very grateful for the other films, it was not the one that God placed upon my heart.”
In speaking with her, there was only one option to make this a reality: to pay for everything and take on the role of producer. Whatever you envy, cinematography (which is stunning), wardrobe, and even locations are all things she picked.
“It was only a matter of time; everything went according to plan, and the film was completed within 25 months. We prayed for wisdom in our endeavors and favor in our endeavors and received it,” she said.
Although I mostly do a preview of new artists and songs, when I learned that the movie Someone Like You was filmed partly in the director’s home state of Tennessee, with images of Franklin and Nashville and this area of Alabama, I was more than curious.
Someone Like You is a truly captivating redemptive love story that focuses on the architect Dawson Gage (Jake Allyn), who had a crush on London Quinn (Sarah Fisher) in high school despite her warning him not to. As the events unfold, we jump forward ten years later. The two remain solely best friends until tragedy hits. After the pass sad events, Dawson, who is still deeply affected by the loss, sets out to perform one last thing she would have wished for; to find her.
He embarks on an impossible quest to find his wife’s secret twin Andi Allen (also played by Sarah Fisher), stating the twins were split prior to even birth. Andi is further shaken when learning that her adoptive parents had lied to her this whole time. But there was never an intention of love in Dason’s mind.
All was in attendance on the night of the premiere at Franklin Theatre to pay tributes to Kingsbury; the stars of the event were all there.
Hallmark actor Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) went on to say, “It’s a beautiful movie. Yes, even the loss of a child there is strength, through faith, through God and having your family around you.”
“When Vince Gill and I are honoraria, we want to come and support this movie as we will never have and tort and artistic structure. Karen Kingsbury has gone all the way for the culture. It is important for all of us to support the culture. This combination of being at Franklin Theatre it is the best of being in a small town. And that’s Franklin”
Vince Gill ,who came out to support Tyler Smith, Tyler Smith is Michael W.Smith’s son. “I am excited to hear the music. Nashville has popped up as a great city in which to make movies. It’s good the town”.
Tyler Smith, Michael W. Smith’s son, who began his phrase by saying, “This guy, who can run circles around me on the piano, took to the beautiful art of scores. He did an amazing job. There is definitely a bug for filmmaking in Nashville”
Fox News presenter Shannon Breams mentioned, “I love all her books, they are so encouraging but there is always a message.
The film sends such a beautiful and healing message. I suggest you bring your tissues because they will most definitely be needed.”
Shay Mooney’s wife was present at the event: “I’m a fan of her and her work. I can’t wait to see this movie tonight. Good things are coming out of Nashville. Nashville is a big family. Everyone lends a helping hand. As authors, we all aspire to write like Karen Kingsbury.”
Christian performer Matthew West added: “I knew Karenmany years back, she has always believed in my music and we became friends. I have utmost respect for her vision. When she engages or works on something, she does it well. Yes, this movie will be great. There is no doubt about that.”
Rory Feeks to the audience: “He goes out there and he shares Jesus with the world, which you know, I think is amazing. That’s the why behind what she does.”
Kingsbury and her family have been in the trenches while working in the film. Still, she ultimately hopes to see the movie on its own, free of the ‘Christian’ banner. Tyler Russell, her son, was the director of Someone Like You.
Russell said, “I’m really proud of [this film], really proud of the efforts that everybody put in. We had a wonderful team and a wonderful cast. The film was completed in twenty-four days. It was quite lovely. The mission was and remains to do things to the best of our abilities and to treat the cast and the crew with all the care they deserve. Sure, the film is what we are creating but if people feel loved in the process, they feel seen, that really is what counts in the end.”
The chemistries between Jake Allyn and Sarah Fisher were sizzling hot. And Lynn Collins who played Louise, London Quinn’s mother, had several award-worthy moments.
At first, I was quite puzzled who was London Quinn and who was Andi Allen. It was quite delightful when Sarah Fisher informed me that she was the one who portrayed both characters.
Fisher has stated, “It is a great privilege to be able to perform one of her extraordinary three dimensional characters. But to take on that kind of challenge twice (in my case, playing two parts) is particularly exciting for me. It was fun to be able to create two characters. And Tyler (Russell) was so great for me as an actress because while we were in Alabama and shooting Andi and London, between takes we didn’t even flinch when I mentioned the laugh somehow. We didn’t fold over, even down to the laugh.”
She added, “Karen is so amazing. She is talented, so giving, so warm. I was really honored to work with her.”
Apart from the movie Someone Like You which is going to be out in the theatres on April 2, a television series based on Kingsbury’s book series “The Baxters” is going to be available on Amazon Prime starting March 28th.
Roma Downy (Touched By An Angel) stars in The Baxters and was also present at the premiere to support her friend.
“As elated as I am to take the role of Elizabeth Baxter, the matriarch, I watch the series as a fan, and now I’m glad to produce it, I stepped in the role of Elizabeth Baxter. It’s a family drama and I don’t think I have seen anything quite like it before.
The story covers all the challenges or trials and tribulations that any family can have. But in such times of trouble they are a family of faith and ‘when life brings them to their knees’ she narrated. ‘I am here because I am the greatest fan, oops you could say number one Karen Kingsbury fan , and I am quite proud to be waving her flag.’”
Also present was Reagan Decker now Cassidy Gifford who is the star of The Baxter and has now moved to Nashville with her husband and a baby. Nashville is also home to her mother Kathie Lee Gifford. “People are so lovely here, it’s so completely a different style. Today I am here to help Karen, whom I love with all my heart. She is truly an amazing woman, so talented and works so hard. I am really happy to be here to promote you.”
It is undeniable that The Baxters, like all of Karen Kingsbury’s works, is a family drama that will inspire you, so make sure to add it to your list of shows to binge whenever you can. Starting March 28, you can watch The Baxters series on Amazon Prime Video.
It seems that like works by Sparks, works by Kingsbury and her books and films are also easily cast in comparison. However, when it comes to the creations of Kingsbury, there is a difference – itself. You know that the last scene is not the last.
