The Firing Squad
The Firing Squad
The Firing Squad is a biographical drama film that is faith based and it is PG-13 rated for drug references, violent content and thematic elements. Parents: There are no graphic representations of shooting somebody to death – people are shown shooting at them and it is apprehended that they are shot. However, a few episode showed some men down on the ground with little blood spitting out from their mouths. No cuts are depicted.
The film is starring James Barrington, Kevin Sorbo (“God’s Not Dead”, “Let There Be Light”) and Cuba Gooding, Jr. The director is Timothy Chey (Freedom, David and Goliath, etc).
The production companies have received endorsements from Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru), Calvary Chapel, Pastor Greg Laurie, NACC, Baptist Press, Christian Cinema, NRB, Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries, The Christian Post, The Fish Radio, Rebecca St. James, Family Christian, Serving Global Outreach-Father Bako Serikal, Lifeway Christian Resources, Talbot Seminary, Biola University, Dallas Theological Seminary, Baptist News, Daystar TV, Evangelical Press Assn, Life Surge, etc.
The Firing Squad is also endorsed by the Marketing Teams of The Passion of the Christ, Son of God and Sound of Freedom.
I do not remember this newsworthy story being told when it actually happened. Either I failed to watch it, or it was underreported. Hence I was completely blank about the narrative.
The film starts out in an actual drug deal in the background where two of the men are hatched up, and are orchestrating the execution of the plan that they had drawn chances of whether the disruptors would tame them or not. I thought The Firing Squad was amazing in portraying the men prior to their capture.
But they could not pass the security. In Indonesia at the airport, they were apprehended and directly incarcerated. They had a drug free environment. Hence their petition was rejected.
The narrative accompanies them as they spend their time in the prison which wasn’t that long. They did not consider themselves Christians prior to being incarcerated, and were rather hostile to the other inmates who tried to witness to them. When they finally consented to joining an inmate led service, they gave their lives to Jesus.
A distinction was clear in the personality traits of the men, owing to the peace they had found. Then they advanced to evangelize, even baptizing people that you would have deemed impossible! Another remarkable area of the Firing Squad plot that needs attention is the fact that it is a love story! In a foreign jail for death row inmates, one does not imagine the possibility of a love story taking place, but there is!
With regards to the few days that lead to the death of the prisoners, the Firing Squad Wow, this is not the way it is in other faith based movies. What I mostly enjoyed this movie was how well they executed the scene of how the men were able to stand in so much peace after they have received Jesus. I absolutely love and recommend the movie The Firing Squad!
