Cocaine Werewolf
Cocaine Werewolf
Cocaine Werewolf: Lately, indie filmmakers seem to have been insatiably annoyed by the horror comedy, Cocaine Bear, released a few years ago . The uniqueness of concentrating on a bear, fed on cocaine, and turned into monstrous is probably very entertaining. This actually surprises me that this idea wasn’t overused during the drive in era. The thought of screening drug fueled beasts back to back is quite fascinating in astonishing era of drive in theatres.
Well, because of the last few years of two films, Cocaine Bear, such as Methgator, Cocaine Crabs from Outer Space, Cocaine Shark, and Crackcoon made their drug-induced focus on craziness more mainstream. For me, it started a couple of weeks ago when I received a press release on the anticipated film ‘Cleopatra Entertainment’ announcing the release of Mark Polonia’s Cocaine Werewolf.
I wasn’t expecting such a title but as a movie lover I couldn’t afford missing out on such a potentially great movie . I got in touch with them and they supplied a review copy to me. I would like to express my gratitude to MVD and Cleopatra Entertainment for providing me with a review copy.
There’s a stock broker addicted to cocaine and somehow finds himself in the woods where he meets some cursed being. But this also means he now has to roam the night as a werewolf. Elsewhere, an independent film crew is shooting a movie about a killer clown when a coked-up werewolf appears.
A Polonia film is for me 50-50. I appreciate the charm of no-budget films and absurd plots sometimes but there are times it feels like the movie was made just to make money out of the current trend without production quality. Sure I was quite excited for a werewolf movie but I just thought this ones going to be one of those movies awful movies that got made when there was this hype about drugged up horror movies. I was mistaken. I found myself actually enjoying this one way more than I was supposed to.
The acting in this one is rather inconsistent, but overall I found it enjoyable. Some of the characters were developed further. Well written; thus, the cast had something to build on. On the contrary, some of the characters can be exasperatively bland, and one-dimensional which led to bland interpretation of the actors portraying the characters.
This is a very simple plot, yet very entertaining. This is not the most creative movie since its story is quite bland, it is the absurd scenes and the no budget appeal that makes this one fun. I was not expecting a bear to be substituted for a werewolf, and although it is not a typical werewolf movie, it kept me entertained from beginning to end. It would have been nice if there was a tad more of a backstory to the werewolf, but it still works the way it is.
Last but not least, the film employs an inexpensive werewolf mask and some cheap jokes and pratfalls. We are shown some blood splashes in small quantities and also some kills that are rather dull.
On the whole, Cocaine Werewolf was entertaining, though I anticipate many of you will be keen to rush into the comments section to say Mark Polonia and Cleopatra Entertainment are making up for the review’s shortcomings. They did not and I would like to stress, I enjoyed it. Of course, I would have wanted to see more convincing performances and some great gore too, but that is just how it goes. Cocaine Werewolf is like Wolfcop for drunk cops and and lines of coke stake brokers. I would strongly suggest getting this one.
