The holiday season is all about light romance and charming flicks charmed Christmas romance comedy that is. There’s a specialty town sprinkled with snow, petite towns create an abundant supply of Christmas wreaths, expect a heroine for this season with advanced entrepreneurship skills but yet looking for the perfect partner, and lastly brace yourselves for the perfect mix of rugged looks and a captivating persona who will perfectly fill the void for her. Netflix’s “Hot Frosty” alongside Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan, showcase numerous elements together with a sophisticated level of love that is mutual respect towards one another and distance growth alongside the enchantment for one another.
The storyline takes off in the captivatingly enchanting rice of Hope Springs, combining multiple elements that are further aided by Kathy who lives all by herself in a Victorian, slightly broken, home. Kathy’s Kafe, which simultaneously functions as a social central hub and a restaurant perfectly helps in creating a French atmosphere for the audience around the fireplace.
It looks like she is the one who provides food for the entire neighborhood, including Mel (Sherry Miller) and Theo (Dan Lett), who run the antique shop diagonally across. Mel passes the magical shawl to Kathy, claiming that it is time for her to go out into the cold and hunt for some warmth.
What Kathy discovers instead is a sculpted snowman at the very same cold which her statue making competitors used as the theme for their contest around the center square. Heavenly Adonis the Snow Man is what Kathy calls this neck scarf-less Christmas sculpture, the on my body is missing the only thing Kathy thinks People dress up their Christmas trees. So Kathy, who has always been generous, takes off her neck scarf and wraps it around the neck of this sculpture. After she departs, a snowstorm and CGI enchantment animate the sculptured snowman bare except for an oversized scarf. That day, Jack Milligan after the name tag located on a pair of overalls stolen from the antique shop claims that he is a builder. The next day, he is saved by Kathy who conceals him from the city sheriff, Craig Robinson and Joe Lo Truglio his deputy who follow allegations for a scammer that wrought the door’s window of her stores The Antique shop. It’s exactly as you would expect the film to be from this point on.
The interaction of Milligan and Ted is in no way an example of injection of romance in what is a platonic friendship and instead the friendship works on the premise that it is meant to be deep especially in the Miller and Ted context. The film Schitt’s Creek portrays Milligan, who played Jack as well, as a wide-eyed, gold-hearted but an unrestrained puppy dog. However, while a good comparison can be made to Will Ferrell as Elf especially as Jack is essentially birthed on the premise of magic, Milligan chooses Brennan Frasier as well as Jeff Goldblum as the more relevant replacement with their role of being sweet in a funny way. What could be termed surreal looks of Frasier however do end up becoming something of fodder in the context of the plots, where Among other older women Lauren Holly who tend to want Frasier’s Jacks body over anything else they tend to separate Jack and Kathy’s relationship.
The most direct line delivered in context of the plot is when Jack Hengel purports during his first appearance that the only word he understands is the word love, that he believes is the word love best describes snow, soup and even Kathy to him. In the end, Jack does not even empower this narrative as King and Kathy get into a separate argument whether or not Jack should be lovey dovey and in what way, with Kathy firmly believing that the statement in which, ‘if I lovey you, I am actually lovey you’ should hold a much more serious tone.
He begins to understand the compassion and pain involved in loving someone as he comes to terms with how Kathy lost her husband. Chabert as Kathy is a woman dealing with loss and anger who perseveres for others but has abandoned herself. Losing faith in everything only to find it again in someone whose purpose in life is to be the epitome of compassion and kindness. They complement each other. They work on themselves first and then their relationship.
This film is not solely focused on romantic love. There for Jacks compassion and kindness extend to his community and his family as well so that he feels fulfilled. Over time Jack begins to understand people and doing more and more to improve their lives. Cooking dinner for Kathy is only the first step before he learns how to nail a roofing repair and ultimately he gets to to be a handyman in town. Jack is driven to assist other people in making plumbing repairs and fixing roofs by Kathy’s strong example of selfless service.
From the simple respect that the villagers show him regardless if he is a snowman or not, all of them want to protect him, perhaps due to his infernal background. A woman observes that “He is the most precious person, so how can there be a person, who is not bewitched?”
This film also commercially is a solid Christmas movie and a good addition to the Netflix holiday movie universe along with the clothes and complete accessories from other movies such as Adevia for the ‘Christmas prince’ films and the satirical segment when Kathy views ‘Falling for Christmas’ and comments that the leading lady, Lindsay Lohan looks ‘exactly like one of her former classmates’. In its essence and its quality it, I recall the delightful jewel of a time travel film called ‘The Knight Before Christmas which I personally feel went underrated.
Frosty is a blend of sweet magic making it goofy and inviting at the same time, I will remind the readers that this is the ideal romantic comedy, “Frosty”, which makes frosty so captivating. The narrative makes it pellucid who its target audience is and treats them accordingly. It presents a perfect heartwarming Capra-eques dramatization, where friendship and respect is the center of the romance, people protect their own, and there is harmony and togetherness. Isn’t that amazing?
