Following his abandonment at the altar, Pete receives an unforgettable wedding gift from his groomsmen. An enchanting night out in the city during the Lunar Eclipse has Pete believing this girl could be exactly what he needed.
Still Today is what we may call a romantic comedy that contains an expected twist. The plot, to some degree, follows a well-known template, but it does leave enough room for some enjoyment and surprises. Think of it as something that rhymes with step by step approach. The night out that Pete (Thompson) and Jenny (Wyble) share is whimsical and is bound to them giggling. Primarily, it allows them to get more and more comfortable with each other. This is made even better with the undeniable chemistry between Thompson and Wyble who, to be honest, look like a mismatched couple at the start. As time passes, women start liking men and vise versa. The said chemistry, for the first time ever, turns out to be useful.
But, even though Still Today is funny, entertaining, and had some great moments, it still lacks something. The film had some issues with some of the supporting cast’s acting at the beginning. It’s not off-putting by any means, but it is quite impossible to ignore.
While Pete’s character has mini-episodes where he is likable, he has some mood sprints during the night and there is one scene about him which I found to be irritating. To be fair, he has suffered a lot in this tale, but to me it seemed too great of a shift too far in the other direction. Those quibbles aside, this lovable romantic indie is worth watching. We see a lot of what the couple does at night, and it is delightful and funny in equal measure.
Still Today is an enchanting rom-com featuring unconventional protagonists out on a long, one night romantic escapade that is bound to put a smile on your face.
