The Idea of You
The Idea of You
The Idea of You: A romantic couple. The man is American, the woman is British, one of them runs a very special fun-sized, narrow business, is contented with family and friends, but is an introvert and feels a bit disoriented and one is a glitzy global star who too, is an introvert and feels a bit disoriented. You have a thirst not only for knowledge but for art, and you remain spectacularly beautiful in both ways.
Ooh yes; we do understand why the star must go to the house of an ordinary individual and, offer a repulsive drink and a present of an artwork that has a very basic yet important symbolism, and primary leaning out whining paparazzi.
A lot of the details of ‘Notting Hill’ will comeawfully familiar. ‘The Idea of You’ is a glossier but lesser work from writers Michael Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt. The two writers have better films, their dramas are multidimensional rather than just commercial. Just Want You essentially bubbles over this using a much-loved book by Robinne Lee.
“We included on The Skimm’s ‘2020’ list of Eight Books Both You and Mom Will Love ” The rest of the review on Amazon is less boastful indeed. In simpler terms: guess what swayed this mudge manner of a picture, their stars? They are at least partially right.
As for Anne Hathaway who plays the 40-year-old, older woman, there is no hint of withering in her seductive features that crade the youthful ingénue, while the soon-to-beful of stardom Nicholas Galitzine is a Prince Charming any girl would be weak in knees for. One cannot really fault them in their efforts, even if, the story doesn’t really focus on a lot more than yearning looks, passionate hugs, and tearful goodbyes.
Hathaway portrays Solène Marchand, a divorced mother with a high school daughter named Izzy (Ella Rubin) who owns a small art gallery in the hip Silver Lake section of Los Angeles. Daniel (Reid Scott), Solène’s ex-husband who loves buying things for Izzy but doesn’t spend time with her, has arranged VIP tickets at the Coachella madness for his daughter, hoping to get her meet the August Moon band whom she has not been in love with since seventh grade.
In the end, Daniel backs away from the festival because of work which leaves Izzy disappointed, while Solène finds herself in the position were her strap plans for a weekend away in the woods has to be taken over that evening when she has to take Izzy and her pals to a concert.
This is Annie in a sappy romance story, featuring cute lines as abstracts connected by dots. That is where, within that telling, contradictory event takes place and Solène really goes and also sits on a singer’s trailer thinking it’s a bathroom cabinet.
The young man peering beneath the stage is the sweetened-singer-songwriter turns actor Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), who has been a pop drama since his participation in a boy band audition at the age of 14. He is fascinated by Solène’s blend of normality (ignoring him) and breathtaking beauty (I mean, it’s Anne Hathaway, what’s there to explain).
He does locate her, in her art gallery, purchases all of the artwork and because of his incessant press and fans loosen and come over to her house for lunch where both reveal their trust issues (which naturally led to a kiss too).
So far, so good. But this is where things go from a fairy tale, though barely believable, to a very great appealing stalk for one of those meaning in the YouTube plot holes and character implausibility snark-fests. Given that he is alive 2024 and Hayes has had the experience for nearly half his life with fans and media, people in this day and age still feel that Solène can tour all over Europe with the band and kiss in public places and no one will notice her.
It was in an age of 20 on the novel where they did add four years to his age to Temporal-temporalism factor but still they do not give Hayes much of a characterization apart from a lost emotional man who devoutly submits to Dorothy who makes him feel like the ideal male never.
Oh! Metrophobia; dread of the neutrality followed by abandonment by mother; a fleeting Oedipus complex. Untranslatable issue, generational bonding without even childhood depictions, exceptional or ordinary background, development and so forth.
Solène’s character is just as thinly developed (still hurt by her ex, adoring her daughter – though very cute when they sing along to St.
Vincent in the car), due to her promotion of the local artists, and, later on, rather confused whether a relationship with the pop singer, who is seven years her daughter’s senior, is a good idea or not. But in fact, Hayes has hardly anything to be done regarding the character. His only attributes are loving Solène and, perhaps, wishing to compose a few lines. It’s worth mentioning that music in film, be it original or needle drops, is quite impressive.
If there was a category in the Oscars for making poorly written supporting roles better, Hathaway and Galitzine would probably be listed in that category. Although most of the audience would probably enjoy the sweet revenge on her cheating ex more than the romance and no matter how contrived it is, you somehow want Solène and Hayes to get together.
