Almanak, Vrouwen Om Van Te Houden
Almanak, Vrouwen Om Van Te Houden: Three or four of the following films are lovely and have this sort of atmospherics, but they are just too bland – small dreams that dissipate too quickly. The last Bus is about hostage tourists on a bus about to break out and it is exhilarating, hilarious and entertaining. A group of people with nowhere to go, stuck together in a horrific event.
Is always a captivating concept which is very much in keeping with the classical style of cinema. The performance is quite sloppy here and again. There are parts that stay within the limits of irony but not for nationality hating ‘Vogels’ where mother and daughter are enjoying summer in an abandoned ballet summer camp and have a far too lovely exotic lady in the ballet hall.
The Knock On The Door for sure does not add anything much. The plot surrounds a lesbian couple who would like to bear a child together, therefore, have planned a visit of a man, and surprising jealousy develops right before the day.
Obviously, it is very cheap to even throw in sexual abuse into the plot. It’s too brief a narrative, and none of the nuances emparted into me; It appears however to be undesirably excessive. Even though all shorts are of women’s issues but there is no psychological depth nor nice wordings. When we discuss inner conflicts and day-today life of women, this does not come out as a problem.
Burden – and it is this last short – and by far the shortest innovative short by far – that makes Almanac – Women To Love – ‘do broad words do bias them. We had two women one from Ukraine and one from Russia who married in Holland but now are quite fed up with this life.
They have every intention of going back — until they come across each other. This film is the most oppressive, best way to say, only one is actually interesting. A casual confrontation between two women who is intense/vulnerable and well matched/confrontational feels like talking, thinking and breathing for the first time in their life.
Solve naturally poses the question of emigration/integration into a new country and or being with a person who speaks a different language than you: Is it possible to move to another nation and begin a new life or it cannot be done? This love story is beautifully captured on camera with nice actors and so in this case could have actually been a full-length Almanak, Vrouwen Om Van Te Houden feature movie.
It relates to the cycle of getting rid of certain parts of one’s body because it is sometimes necessary in order to achieve a more meritorious outcome. And that is very well completed at the end of that first date.
