A Glimpse of Forever: In this modern age, technology is an integral part of the lives of the Filipinos, which has slowly attached itself to them. Today’s technology can be used to interact with others as is evidenced with social media or in earning income for the greater percentage of people. To cover another aspect of technology which we learnt to respect as Filipinos, it has also assisted in matters concerning romantic relationships.

Listening one say about ten years back that they met their partner through a site for people looking for partners would have elicited laughter from everyone; it is now the real deal. So in this case, VIVA Films and JP Laxamana present a most interesting plot, asking what if these people, desperate not to be alone anymore, used Virtual Reality.

A Glimpse of Forever actors Jerome Ponce as Dante with SAD works for ForeVR which is a VR dating physical company as a mo-cap model. This time he is a mo-cap model. Dante is so endearing when he is being a virtual character whom most ladies look up to. When he is not these good-looking objects of someone’s affection, he is a miserable person who shuns human contact.

This is where every imbecilic romance plot of the filmmaking fare, changes when Glenda (Jasmine Curtis-Smith) comes into ForeVR looking for a character model Kokoy (Diego Loyzaga) who hasn’t been used in ages but only Dante is able to play it out in such a way that she wants him to and in turn he falls in love with her as well but here is where things get complicated: Did Glenda unknowingly let out her Kotokova obsession in Dante or did Dante really have affection for Glenda more than Kokoyh?

Naturally, the first reaction would be — oh, another boy meets girl story – but hold your horses because yet again Jason Paul Laxamana has blown our minds with Glimpse. This film is the work of this brilliant man who has given us so many awesome works that showed us what dramatic film was turned inside out, filled with such deep honesty one can only humbly beg for a little self-examination from the viewers.

Here, he employs love through technology as a perfectly crafted tool in understanding how Filipinos deal with issues of generational trauma, unfulfilled ambitions and stigma around healthy practices for mental wellness.

Kwenye, an chokura hefty of diciendo such swali shyaani kala na slimsight activity as socialising, consider whether emotions felt to another person are true affectionate activations or not / not else-kurt.

He brings to the character, helplessness seeking compassion, cheerful encouragement and excitement, all of blame – which should have been thankfully missed focusing on his character only. Most part of Diego Loyzaga of these, the same, however, main drawback gives away, so we will have to refrain from describing Diego Loyzaga’s role in this movie being that it’s quite a huge spoiler. But it is just wonderful ant children together throw themselves into demanding challenging starring.

Curtis-Smith however gets a bit of the short end of the sword here, a bit of plot device overkill that her character is more or less passive and entirely reactive to events – Glenda does not have much chance to display any initiative however Jasmine tackles the task thrown at her with great confidence.

JP’s final work Penduko, there is no denying, was ambidextrous. It was not comfortable for him to be doing something so outside of all of his skill set. So I am glad that Laxamana is back up there with Glimpse as good as ever. He has always been making films with ordinary Filipino movie cliches (covered sometimes with thematic elements) trying to depict the state of human society and for that alone I severally clashed with him.

Even his creating of these characters depicts why and how he felt it was important to depict the reality of trauma to parents— something Filipino denizens writers/directors wouldn’t have gone beyond cliched comedy bits and melodramatic wailing retorts. He expects the audience to empathize with the on-screen actors’ suffering which is not surprising since no one can heal such emotional scars better than he can.

If you think ‘A Glimpse of Forever’ is some simple romcom with a feel good angle, get ready for a harsh pinch. What you will be getting instead is rather witty and rather heartwarming looking at one looming injustice in today’s world; our growing alienation from each other, how we have come to rely upon technology and how we are forever seeking to get away from the pains of the day before.

This is a challenging movie to sit through, but those who do with the fair expectation will be rewarded by such systematic dosage that what may set them on the path of ascending out of despair would be offered, rather than continuing to dwell in sorrow.
